How can the simple act of masking bring so much prickling discomfort? Every inch of my body burns until I can move, it is though I must be bound into an unfamiliar, fragile form to ensure functionality. I use both this incessant feeling, and the allegories originating from Franz Kafka’s The Metamorphosis, to inform my practice; the act of replicating a paused transformation between being and, either an organic or inanimate, ‘other’. Through creating a metamorphosed being that I find humorous, I prevent personal burnout, using my ADHD to influence my practice both in context and in the making process. Primarily, I use oil paint on canvas to present these absurd creatures, overburdened by societal expectations of normalcy and productiveness.
